Optical Record Pipe // Glass City of Us

about

The albums of Glass City of Us and Objects + Particles share the production ideas of creating stems of sound design unto themselves. Not having a compositional reason, or place put to -but concentrate on the synthesis alone, and not be concerned with it in a certain context, narrative or idea. What is the most interesting sound I can make, what does the sound want to say? Not so much what I want, but what does the sound want to communicate, as if it was sentient (an idea that would lead to other collections of sounds and music.)

This was the premise of Objects + Particles, and this notion folded into the larger story of the plot in Glass City of Us: namely, the rapture of an all encompassing relationship between two people, that involves the city environment as well. Within this, ‘Optical Record Pipe’ is depicting the transference of ideas, and communication as it relates to the historical past stored with a large spool centralized data, deep in the well of the city, and as the sentience of the machine mind of the technological being.

Once the different layers of the sound were collected, parsed, rejected or organized into the 2 albums, the stems of ‘Optical Record Pipe’ designed in 2003, were finally edited and mixed in 2005.
