Nonagon // NONAGON

The title track from the 9 piece album, ‘Nonagon’, composition #9 seemed to summarize the general idea of the album and hence became the title track, number 5 in the order of music on the album. Nonagon as collection started out with field recordings and ‘found’ sound of city parks, vehicles, airports, rain and birds.

As in Charlotta and Natura, various passes worked up the compositional density, with each layer a different approach in sound. Beginning with the modified recordings, the next phase of the 5 involved, was looping specific parts into rhythmic foundations accompanied by a Korg synth through guitar pedals.

As with Natura, an instrument pass of fretless bass and guitar, edited and pitch manipulated as if it was tape was the next step. Finally a low synth bass was added at the end for compositional emphasis once the writing and mixing was almost complete. All of the pieces of music on Nonagon, are influenced by 90s and early 2000s electronica and the synthesis.

The overall feeling of the pieces made me feel the sense of the beauty that is in mathematics and so the 9 separate ‘objects’ found a commonality in the theme of their titles. And so the album became: Nonagon. Written and completed in 2022, my most recent work.
